Death Threats to Schifani, the President “I will continue my work with complete serenity”

According to reports, the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, received a threatening letter containing death threats.
“No comment”. This is the first comment, hot off the press, from the president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, reached by telephone by the Italpress agency, following the threats received at his private home in Palermo and at the secretariat of Palazzo d'Orleans. The Sicilian governor did not want to add anything else, except that he is continuing his work in “full serenity”.
"I would like to express my personal closeness and that of the Sicilian Parliament, to President Renato Schifani and his family. The climate of hatred towards institutional representatives, as demonstrated only a few days ago in Rome, on the occasion of the verbal attack on the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, is becoming increasingly heavy and dangerous. I sincerely hope that the investigators will shed full light on this episode and I am certain that our governor will continue without delay in his administrative action". Thus the President of the ARS Gaetano Galvagno.
“I wish to express my firmest condemnation of the vile threats directed at the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani. My personal and institutional closeness goes out to him, certain that despicable episodes like this will not slow down his commitment to Sicily”. This was stated by the regional councillor for Productive Activities, Edy Tamajo. “The work that the President is carrying out on crucial issues such as the fight against social degradation and the construction of waste-to-energy plants – continues Tamajo – is the concrete demonstration of a government vision that looks to the future of our land with determination and courage. I am sure that the police forces will shed full light on what happened, bringing those responsible for these unacceptable acts to justice”.
"I express firm condemnation for the despicable threats to the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, to whom I extend all my solidarity and that of the municipal administration. I hope that the police will be able to trace those responsible in a short time and I am sure that these cowardly episodes will not undermine the commitment that President Schifani is putting into the field on issues that are very dear to citizens, such as the fight against crack consumption and the path to the construction of waste-to-energy plants, which represent the cornerstones of his government action". This was declared by the mayor of Palermo, Roberto Lagalla.
“On behalf of AIOP Sicilia and myself, I would like to express my deepest solidarity with the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, and his family, for the threats received in recent weeks”. Barbara Cittadini, president of Aiop Sicilia, wrote in a note. “We firmly condemn any form of intimidation that attempts to hinder the free exercise of government action and the defense of the common good”, she added, “the threats directed at the President and his family represent a vile attack not only on the person but also on the democratic institutions of our Region”. “We renew our closeness to President Schifani”, concludes the note from Cittadini, “hoping that the ongoing investigations can quickly identify those responsible for such despicable acts, we confirm our full support for his work, in particular on issues that are crucial for the future of Sicily”.
"The seriousness and the manner of the threats against the President of the Region Renato Schifani must immediately turn the spotlight on this episode. We express our solidarity to Renato Schifani and are relieved that the Palermo Public Prosecutor's Office has already started investigations. The authors of these very serious threats and intimidations cannot remain nameless. In the government of Sicily, with Schifani we are doing a huge job: this is demonstrated by the accounts in order, the growth of the GDP and the great challenge to overcome the infrastructure gap. On the front of the construction of waste-to-energy plants, thanks to President Schifani, very important steps forward have been made and the fight against corruption and crack is very high attention. President Schifani should know that he can always count on our support and we are certain that he will continue his work, with the same commitment as always and with his head held high". This is what Senator Nino Germanà, regional secretary of the League in Sicily, says.
“The Christian Democrats express solidarity with the President of the Region, Renato Schifani, who has been the victim of death threats. We firmly condemn any form of intimidation and continue to firmly support the government’s action.” This was stated by Totò Cuffaro, national secretary of the DC. “As a former President of the Region, I understand the delicate issues related to the construction of waste-to-energy plants and I know the importance of addressing complex issues with firmness and determination. Schifani will not be intimidated and will continue to work, with our full support, for the construction of waste-to-energy plants, one of the programs that the DC and the regional government care about,” concludes Cuffaro.
